English Classwork 17/12/15

One feature which Aditya Chakrabortty uses in the text is personification. He uses it where he says: the 72 storey skyscraper that already stalks Londoners everywhere they go. This is an example of personification because it gives a building human like features and characteristics. It also says it ‘glowers over our conversations in Peckham’. This is also something a building obviously cannot do. Aditya uses this feature so we know how the Shard ‘feels’ about Peckham. Peckham is used as an example as it is a place where people discredit it. He knows that people have prejudice of Peckham by wealthier people and the Shard is used as an example of upper class people. Overall, the Shard is used as a way to show how richer people despise people from Peckham.

Story 07/12/15

It is May 10th 2016, a humid night with light rain at the ‘Turk Telekom Arena’. It was the Uefa Europa League Final between Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund. Tottenham’s last trophy was in 2008 against Chelsea and the last European trophy was against Anderlecht in 1984. Spurs had twice been denied trophies in 2009 and 2015 vs Manchester United and Chelsea. This game meant a lot to us.

Borussia Dortmund are a massive German side and were one to be feared in this game. They had a fierce attacking prowess with like of Aubameyang, Reus and Kagawa. The first twenty minutes of the game was very even, like a chess game, we were both trying to figure each other out. Thirty three minutes played, we had a corner which struck the cross bar of the head of Jan Vertonghen. Chance goes begging and Dortmund will come on the counter attack 2 v 1, the one being me and Reus and Aubameyang being the two. Behind me was the increasingly loud Dortmund fans, they have great fans and great atmosphere which put me off. The shot by Reus was hit and I saved it, but the ball trickled past the line as I chased it back. It felt like I had been shot in the stomach. By half time it 3-0 to Dortmund and there was just nothing we could do. In the changing room, me and ‘Poch’ had to get the team motivated for a crucial 45 minutes. Jus
